Ranks

There are 7 main ranks of shinobi.

Ninja Academy Student: The lowest rank. (you're still in school)

Genin: Once you graduate from Ninja Academy, this is where you go.

Chuunin: You take series of exams including physical and mental to become one.

Special Jonin: A little bit less powerful than Jonins, they do jobs such as a referee.

Jonin: They lead squads of 3 Genin.

Sonnin: They are the most powerful type of ninja. There are only 3 in existance.

Kage: The leader of a village.

Squads and Teams

There are squads of 3 people with a leading Jonin.

Team 7: Naruto Uzamaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Kakashi Hatake (Jonin)

Team 8: Hinata Hyuuga, Kiba Inuzaka, Shino Aburame, Kurenai Yuhi (Jonin)

Team 9: Neji Hyuuga, Tenten, Rock Lee, Might Gai (Jonin)

Team 10: Ino Yamanaka, Chouji Akamichi, Shikamaru Nara, Asuma Saratobi (Jonin)

Naruto Villages

There are 7 villages in the Naruto world.

Konoha (the village hidden in the leaves): the largest and most well known village. It is also known as the fire country.

Suna (the village hidden in the desert): Some of the most powerful shinobi's (ninja's) live here. Less people live there, though. Their Kazekage comes to the Chuunin Exams.

The Village Hidden in the Mist (Blood Mist Village): This is where Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke have their first fighting mission. It is also where Zabuza and Haku lived. It is called "Blood Mist Village" because of a massive slaughter that Zabuza did to his classmates.

The Village Hidden in the Sound: This village was recently founded by Orochimaru, who is very evil. Orochimaru eventually wants to start a civil war with the sound village and Konoha.

The Hidden Waterfall Village: Since this village has no Kage, it uses a tree called Hero Water to protect them. It is also built behind a waterfall, because there are very few shinobi there.

The Village Hidden in the Clouds: The only thing known about this village is that it tried to destroy Konoha at one point in time.

The Village Hidden in the Stone: The only thing I know about this village is that it is a village.
